ABOUT 4D GEL PLATES
WHAT ARE 4D GEL NUMBER PLATES
4D Gel number plates are the premium version of standard 4D plates. The process starts the same way
— each letter and number is individually laser-cut from 3mm acrylic and precision-bonded to the
reflective plate face. Then comes the upgrade: a polyurethane gel coat is applied over each raised
character, creating a smooth, glass-like gloss surface over the already-raised acrylic.
The result is a plate that combines genuine raised depth with a premium gloss finish — characters that
stand proud off the plate surface and catch light with exceptional brilliance. If you want the finest-
looking 4D plate available, 4D Gel is it.
HOW 4D GEL IS MADE — LAYER BY LAYER
Layer 1 — Premium Polyurethane Gel Coat
Applied over the raised acrylic characters. Creates a smooth, glass-like gloss surface. UV-stable, weather-resistant, scratch-resistant. This is what separates 4D Gel from standard 4D.
Layer 2 — Laser-Cut 3mm Raised Acrylic Characters
Each character is individually laser-cut from premium 3mm acrylic sheeting and precision-bonded to the plate face. Charles Wright font. 79mm height. BS AU 145e compliant dimensions throughout.
Layer 3 — Adhesive Bond Layer
The raised characters are bonded to the plate using a high-strength adhesive bond — ensuring the characters remain permanently affixed under all UK weather conditions.
Layer 4 — Reflective Acrylic Backing (3mm)
White (front) or yellow (rear) reflective 3mm acrylic plate base. Meets all DVLA and BS AU 145e reflectivity requirements for road-legal plates.

The gel coat adds exceptional depth and brilliance to each character — catching light from every angle with a glass-like sheen.
Genuine 3mm Raised Depth

Yes — 4D Gel number plates are 100% road legal in the UK. The additional gel coat does not affect
any mandatory specification under BS AU 145e. Characters remain the correct font, height, width,
spacing, and colour. The gel coat only enhances the surface appearance and durability of the already
